Five Irish citizens were among 150 citizens from across the EU who took part in the pan-European summit in Brussels. They were Evelyn Boylan from Scotstown, County Monaghan; Noreen Kelly, Ballyvolane, Cork City; Niall O’Reilly from Maynooth, County Kildare; and Dubliners Brid Bowles, from Lusk and Michael Morrissey, Cabinteely (foreground) who was asked to share a platform with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and other top policy-makers.

150 citizens from all European Member States who have been taking part in a unique pan-European debate on how to tackle the economic and social challenges facing Europe have met top policy-makers in Brussels to hand over their recommendations at the 2009 European Citizens’ Summit..

Little Europe City Districts....

That idea came to me as i was posting another thread in another EU related blog...But it made sence to me so i will post it here as well... I am talking about a city district in all or in as many as possible large or main European cities, the capitals of each country and perhaps one-two more main cities, that will be named Little Europe City District...

Initiatives must be established with a long term goal of European integration and they must be focussed on all Children. Young children have not already assumed National identity first and European identity as an afterthought. Influence and integration Channels could be sports, arts and music i welcome any input to move beyond twinning of cities.

While I welcome every improvement for citizens to participate in Europe, the fundamentals of participation are found in democracy. We urgently need to create clearly democratic structures that put the citizen not the "elites" in the driver's seat of Europe.
